What to expect
Here is what happens at each visit, and how long it takes. The tests are gentle, and there's no pressure to decide anything on the day.
Your three visits
Call 03 9521 6118 or book online. Eva or Sara, our clinic managers, will find a time that suits you.
No referral is needed. Home visits are also available.
Most of our clinics are inside a local medical centre. Come a few minutes early if you can.
Tell reception you're here for Apex Hearing. Your audiologist will come and get you.
We start with a chat. Where is hearing hardest: the phone, the TV or busy rooms?
Then you wear headphones and press a button for each tone. There's no pass or fail.
Your results go on a chart called an audiogram. Your audiologist explains what it shows.
Then you'll talk about what might help. Some need hearing aids, and some need nothing yet.
If you'd like to try hearing aids, we'll book a fitting. We'll show you how they work. Real Ear Measurement uses a small microphone in the ear canal to measure how your hearing aids perform, so we can fine-tune them accurately for your hearing needs.
You take them home on a free 30-day trial, with no obligation.
One to two weeks after the fitting, we'll see you again. We'll ask how things are going.
Small changes are common at first. There's no appointment fee for any follow-ups or adjustments.
The choice is yours, at every step. Many people go home, talk it over and call later.
Wherever possible, you'll see the same audiologist each visit. They get to know you well.
Common questions
Yes, of course. Many people bring a partner, a son or daughter, or a friend. We're happy to answer their questions as well as yours.
No. Your audiologist looks in your ears with a small light. Then you listen to tones through headphones. It's gentle, and you're in control throughout.
Any hearing aids you wear, and your concession card if you have one. Some Medicare rebates do require a GP referral, so bring it if you have one.
No. There's no pressure to buy. If hearing aids could help, we'll explain your options and prices. Then you can take your time to decide.
Then that's what we'll tell you. Some people simply need nothing yet. We'll explain your results and let you know when another check might help.
Please tell us. All feedback is welcome, and we'll work to put it right. If we can't, you can contact the Victorian Health Complaints Commissioner.
Book a time at your nearest clinic, or give us a call first. There's no such thing as a silly question.
